About the Show
Over the course of ten days, WHOOP DEE DOO artists collaborated with 10 high school juniors and seniors at Caldera Arts Summer Camp to conceive and create a unique live variety show built around the camp’s theme of “light.”
Campers collaboratively created and brought to life a moon-themed installation that served as the set for their performances. Their brainstorms led to a “worm dance-off” game, a martian-themed Bob Dylan and Joan Baez cover song (complete with original extraterrestrial lyrics), and a terrifying seafood cooking show. Students also designed and performed with handmade shadow puppets as well as ran the backstage operations for the show.
Working together, they created props, sets, costumes, and puppets; scripted performances; and learned new skills in performance, collaboration, and improvisation. The final 30-minute show was performed live for the entire Caldera camp community as part of the camp’s culminating showcase, all imagined, built, and performed by the students in collaboration with WHOOP DEE DOO artists.
