INTERNSHIPS

YOUNG ARTIST INTERNSHIP (YAI) PROGRAM

WHOOP DEE DOO’s Young Artist Internship (YAI) Program provides arts opportunities for young adults ages 18-25 that are seeking hands-on technical, artistic, and conceptual production skills through intergenerational collaboration.

YAI participants work at the intersection of community engagement and contemporary art, they work with WHOOP DEE DOO artists to teach workshops and provide creative guidance throughout art making-demos and experience the full process of our collaborative projects from concept to completion.

Our YAI program engages participants by allowing them to work as genuine collaborators that are learning the skill sets necessary to curate, produce, and create events within their own communities beyond their work with us. Currently, each WHOOP DEE DOO project’s YAI participants are chosen by the partnering organizations on a project-by-basis.

WHAT YAI PARTICIPANTS LEARN

YAI participants see the direct influence of their ideas, skills, and interests in every show, and establish professional connections with a robust network of peers and contemporary artists.

Throughout a project, our YAI participants have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a variety of areas such as:

  • Working collaboratively with peers to create a project from conception to completion

  • Building intergenerational understanding and meaningful community connections

  • Teaching alongside WDD artists in workshops

  • Creating props and costumes using accessible materials

  • Producing an immersive installation using accessible materials

  • Live effects and puppeteering

  • Engineering live audio and special effects

  • Audience outreach

  • Live performance
